Why does a morning routine board help?

Mornings are one of the busiest times of the day: getting up, dressed, fed, brushing teeth and leaving on time. A morning routine board shows the child what comes now and what comes next, in pictures and not only in words. The child feels less overwhelmed, knows what is expected, needs fewer reminders, there are fewer arguments, and independence and confidence grow.

What goes on a morning board?

  • Preschool: 4 to 6 short steps are enough: wake up, toilet, get dressed, eat, brush teeth, put on shoes.
  • Put the steps in the exact order they happen in your home.

How to use the board in the morning

  • Hang the board at the child's eye level, somewhere you pass every morning.
  • In the first days, go over the board together and point to each step.
  • Mark, flip or move each finished step so the child can see their progress.
  • Slowly step back until the child checks the board on their own.

Common mistakes

  • Too many steps: a long board is confusing. Start short and add later.
  • Changing the order every day: the board works because it is predictable.
  • Using the board only when there is a problem: it works best as a fixed part of every morning, good mornings too.
